Oktoberfest Party

Oktoberfest Costume Party, German Festival Party
Saturday….Dear Diary, Received invite to Oktoberfest Fancy Dress Costume Party…..oh god here we go again.
It’s put me in an instant bad mood and I DON’T WANT TO GO.
Can’t deal with it now, will ignore it.
Saturday – the next one……Dear Diary, It’s not going away is it. Good old Karen 'n' Darren and their obsession with Cultural theme parties. It makes us better people, Karen reminds me when I complain. Easy for her to say - married for 18 years and still madly in love. Revolting.
They do this every year- hold a thumping great Oktoberfest Costume Partyextravaganza and spend the whole time all over each other, clanking their gi-normous beer steins together as if it’s a secret handshake to their perfect one-ness. In the process, it makes the rest of us feel more single and more alone than we already are....inadequate and lost.
I feel sick. And every year for the last 8 years, I say I’m not going. Yet every year I don my Frisky Fraulein costume, or my cutesy wootsy Serving Wench costume, or my tarty Barvarian Beer Maiden costume, and off I go.
WHY HAVENT I LEARNED?
Saturday – last one before the party…..Dear Diary, Its getting closer……Ok I’m going. Surprise, surprise.
I’ve decided to go with the waifish Alpine Milk Maid costume(it’s worth a crack) - my blonde plaits will make me look younger and my boobs will be propped up higher than the tallest Beer tent at the real Oktoberfest in Munich. What have I got to lose?
Monday……Dear Diary, Why hasn’t Nigel from accounts rung me? He’s invited to the party too. And he knows I’m going. And I know that HE knows that I know he’s going.
I have made myself fit into the teeniest, tiniest size eight Bavarian Bar Wench costume-you show me anyone in the office that can do that!
Yes I’ve changed my party costume of choice 50 times since last week. But that’s beside the point.
I haven’t eaten anything related to a potato in weeks – oh god please tells me it shows....Nigel?????
Thursday……Dear Diary, I went over to Karen’s tonight to help her decide on which Oompah band would sound the most authentic for a German Oktoberfest party. Curse me for having a best friend who is caring, lovely, and gives a toss about me and all my insecurity issues. I promised her I would make an effort and mingle at the party. We ended up having a good laugh, imagining me hooking up with some twit who would no doubt be wearing those dreadful tight, green lederhosen and matching Robin Hood hat with the feather in it. And how we would drink way too much Barvarian beer and end up doing all the actions to the Chicken dance together (funny how it’s alright when you’ve had a few…..), then he and I would drive off in his cruddy old volkswagon and live happily ever after!
Friday…..Dear Diary, I’m dreading this. It’s tomorrow night.
Next time someone decides to hold an Oktoberfest Fancy Dress Costume Party, they will be doing it without me.
Still haven’t heard from Nigel. Mental note to NOT talk to him at the party.
At least my Helga the Alpine Goat-herder costume looks fantastic – I’ve decided to go with the ‘fun’ angle rather than yet another buxom German bar wench themed costume. I have also decided to just relax and enjoy myself rather than fretting about who will be at the party and whether I am good enough.
I still feel sick……
Dear Karen ‘n’ Daren
Can’t believe we are actually here in Munich at the Bavarian Oktoberfest!
It’s HUGE and so many people – just amazing.
Am becoming a seasoned beer drinker now although can hardly lift some of the huge beer tankards they insist we use. Bit of a worry ‘cos the lines to the loos are way too long ha ha.
And the music is hilarious – can’t believe they have an Oompah version for Achy Breaky Heart!
Off to eat some more spicy sausage.
Miss you guys - so so so glad I let you talk me into going to your Oktoberfest costume party last year.
Love from Me & the twit in the Lederhosen!
