Mens Christmas Costume, Santa Claus, Three Wise Men or Jesus

Trying to think of some original Mens Christmas costume ideas?  Yes I agree it does seem way too early to be thinking about Christmas just yet….or is it?  A friend of mine got invited to a Christmas fancy dress party last year and waited until AN HOUR BEFORE THE PARTY to work on his Christmas costume!  In a last minute panic he ended up wrapping himself in green crepe paper, pinning baubles to himself and drawing a ridiculous gold star on his forehead in an attempt to become a human Christmas Tree.  What a loser!
 
So last night, said Loser popped round (sporting nice bottle of red “to get creative thoughts flowing” said he) and we brainstormed all possibilities of Mens Christmas costume ideas.  Getting in nice and early this year – good boy.  Of course at the top of the list is the very non-original Santa Claus costume.  To which he poo-pooed and said that last year there were at least 400 Santa Clauses at the party and they all looked the same.  I agreed - at least girls wearing Mrs Clause costumes get to tart theirs up a bit.
 
Ok so what else would make for an interesting Mens Christmas costume idea?  What about the traditional Christmas Elf or Santas Little Helper costume… or even the proverbial Christmas Angel costume… at a push? My friend knocked back another wine in disgust and replied firmly that in no uncertain terms would he be going as anything that involved wearing tights.  Well then, how about something from the Bible – or a character in the Christmas nativity scene?  We tossed around a Three Wise Men costume (wont I need three of me?)… and a Joseph costume, but decided that unless you went as Jesus, all the men in the Bible looked the same.  Like sheep herders he said.  You mean sheppards, surely?  Yes sheppards.  And anyway Jesus was a baby at Christmas and I’m not going as a baby.
 
What a grumble guts.  I’ve got the perfect Mens Christmas costume idea….you could go as The Grinch!  Too hard.  And too mean, came his reply.  Well that means Scrooge is out too then?  Neither of us really new what a Scrooge costume might look like…something out of a Victorian Dickens novel we guessed.  You’d get to wear a nice hat though I offered.
 
I realised very soon, that coming up with Mens Christmas costume ideas that were awe-inspiring and NOT Santa Claus, was harder than one might think.  And I could see why he had procrastinated on it so much last year.  In fact his Christmas Tree costume was starting to look like not such a bad idea now…or was that the wine talking?  After much deliberation and many more nights of ‘brainstorming’, it became more than obvious we would be going to this Christmas party together.  Funny how things turn out.  It also meant we were faced with yet another dilemma – what are some good Christmas costume ideas for couples?
