Gothic Fancy Dress Costume, Goth Costumes
So what exactly is a Gothic fancy dress costume? Please discuss. It almost sounds like a question from last year’s VCE exams. And probably just as scary! Hmm, I wonder what subject Party Costumes might come under? Certainly not Maths or Chemistry... History perhaps? But the fact of the matter is, you’ve been invited to a fancy dress party and the theme is Gothic and you aren’t quite sure what that means, nor what you should wear. Well, you’ll be pleased to learn the answer is: Anything! Yes, you can wear anything you like to a Gothic fancy dress costume party… as long as you make it look dark, daunting and dead. Or hang on, is that un-dead?
Let’s start with obvious Gothic fancy dress costume ideas. You could go to the party as… a Goth! It’s pretty much open slather as to what a Goth might wear, but typically you could get away with long, black clothing, lots of smoky dark eye makeup and black lippy; black nail polish is always Gothy goodness… then scare up your jet-black dyed hair to give it that finger-in-light-socket look and wear some of the new cool Goth boots that are around now. Buckles, chains… anything with a skull on it, and you’re set. Or the other Gothic fancy dress costume that’s closely related to this is the Gothic Punk outfit. Just add a few piercings (or a lot) and a Mohawk (large) to your aforementioned Goth and you’re away laughing. Although try not to - Goths are very serious creatures.
Gothic fancy dress costumes can also blossom from regular style costumes - like a Gothic Nurse uniform for example. She can look real nasty with blood dripping from her eye sockets and a rather large thermometer in her hand. You wouldn’t want to have her appearing by your bedside to take your temperature! Or there’s even a Gothic Fairy costume where you still get to wear wings and a wand… you just look more like a vampire than a twinkle-toes fairy. The Gothic Schoolgirl costume has got to be one of the creepiest Gothic fancy dress costumes on the list – I’d hate to try and tell her to do homework if she doesn’t want to…
Ok, on to the sillier side of the Gothic fancy dress costume code. How about a nice Gothic Bunny costume? Boing, boing, boing… stab! You would never trust the Easter bunny again! Or a lovely ghoulish Gothic Santa suit… seriously, would you dare sit on his knee and tell him what you want for Christmas? I could keep going with a Gothic Darth Vader costume (evil on evil), or a Gothic Go-Go dancer (woo hoo) but I’m bored with this now. Time to go and zip myself up into my seriously Gothic Spongebob Squarepants costume… and this time he’s not cute and yellow!
